
One year after taking the throne, Oba Owolabi Olakulehin, the Olubadan of Ibadan land, passed away at the age of 90. He left behind a legacy of harmony, peace, and cultural preservation in Ibadan land when he passed away at his palace early on Monday, July 7, 2025.
On July 5, 2025, Oba Olakulehin celebrated his 90th birthday. Even though his rule was short, it was distinguished by his dedication to fostering unity, cultural identity, and harmony among Ibadan land’s citizens. He steadied local politics as the 43rd Olubadan of Ibadan land and continuously called for cooperation between the state administration and traditional leaders.
Ibadan land mourns after the news of his passing, and tributes from Oyo State people, traditional leaders, and political figures are flooding in. Both Governor Seyi Makinde and Sultan Muhammadu Sa’ad Abubakar have expressed their sadness over his passing, with the governor vowing a dignified funeral.
The Olubadan-in-Council and the Oyo State Government are anticipated to make funeral announcements in the days ahead.
