Oluwatimileyin Ajayi was given a death by hanging sentence by the High Court in Lafia, Nasarawa State, for the horrific killing of Salome Adaidu, a member of the National Youth Service Corps. Justice Simon Aboki convicted Ajayi guilty of culpable homicide on Thursday after he killed and dismembered the victim. According to Justice Aboki, the prosecution’s argument that the convicted man killed the victim at his home was established beyond a reasonable doubt. According to the ruling, the defendant’s assertions that he was unconscious when he penned his confessional statement and that he fell asleep after having a wonderful time with his girlfriend are untrue.
Thus, following a trial that lasted several months, he declared Ajayi guilty of the crime.
According to Justice Aboki, Ajayi was found guilty in accordance with Section 221 of the Northern Nigerian Penal Code, which stipulates that those found guilty of such an offense are subject to the death penalty.
The penalty for this is death, as the law makes plain. Justice Aboki declared, “Therefore, the accused is hereby sentenced to death by hanging.”
Churchgoers in Orozo, a town on the border between Abuja and Nasarawa, discovered Ajayi carrying a polybag containing the victim’s severed head, leading the Nigerian police to arrest him.
The remaining body pieces were reportedly found inside his flat in New Karshi, Karu Local Government Area, after more inquiry.
Salome was allegedly murdered while visiting Ajayi’s home. Ajayi admitted to the crime in a widely shared post-arrest interview, claiming that the conduct was committed out of jealousy rather than on purpose. We don’t always have each other, so I killed her. It was not my intention. That day it occurred, and it happened. She was cheating, so it’s not like I had the plan in mind. The majority of the time, she keeps most things from me. I learned about it from her phone. I made the decision because I noticed she was talking to other males on the phone,” he claimed.
