OPay, a leading Nigerian fintech company, has announced the expansion of its N1.2 billion, 10-year scholarship program to students at the University of Ilorin (UNILORIN), underlining its ongoing commitment to enhancing access to education across Nigeria.

The scholarship initiative, designed to ease the financial burden of students, will allow recipients to focus on their studies without the worry of tuition fees and other academic expenses. This latest extension to UNILORIN adds to the growing list of institutions benefiting from OPay’s long-term investment in the future of Nigerian youth.

In a statement on Tuesday, OPay’s Managing Director, Dauda Gotring, highlighted that the initiative is more than just financial assistance—it’s about creating a pathway for the country’s young minds to thrive academically and professionally. “Education is the foundation for unlocking potential, and at OPay, we believe it is vital for shaping Nigeria’s future,” Gotring said. “Through this scholarship, we are not just supporting today’s students; we are investing in the leaders and innovators of tomorrow.”

The scholarship was formally introduced during a signing ceremony at the university, attended by Professor Wahab Egbewole, Vice Chancellor of UNILORIN, who expressed his appreciation for OPay’s support. He emphasized that the initiative is in line with the national education agenda, which seeks to empower students and ensure they have the resources to succeed in a rapidly changing world.

“This scholarship is a significant step in aligning corporate responsibility with national educational goals,” said Professor Egbewole. “OPay’s contribution will greatly benefit our students and help pave the way for the future leaders of Nigeria.”

OPay’s scholarship program, which began several years ago, has already supported many students across various Nigerian universities. With this latest extension, the company continues its mission to uplift and empower young Nigerians, ensuring they have the necessary tools to excel both in the classroom and beyond. As the program grows, OPay remains focused on providing opportunities for academic success and professional development, contributing to Nigeria’s long-term progress.
