This week, CNN International’s African Voices Changemakers, a magazine-style programme proudly sponsored by Globacom, will spotlight two of Africa’s most influential gospel music sensations—Nathaniel Bassey and Mercy Chinwo.
The 30-minute segment will delve into the lives and musical journeys of these inspiring artists, showcasing how they’ve used their voices to uplift and transform audiences through gospel music.
Nathaniel Bassey, known for soul-stirring hits like “Yahweh Sabaoth,” “Ebenezer,” and “Tobechukwu,” is not only a gifted singer and songwriter but also a skilled trumpeter. Born on August 27, 1981, the Nigerian gospel star studied International Relations and Politics at the University of Lagos before pursuing music studies at Middlesex University Summer School in the UK. His spiritually enriching music has resonated with millions around the world.
Joining him on the show is Mercy Chinwo, a powerhouse vocalist and gospel songwriter who began singing at the age of six. Since signing with EeZee Conceptz in 2017, she has soared in popularity with chart-topping songs like “Excess Love.” Mercy’s dynamic voice and magnetic stage presence have earned her numerous accolades, including the AFRIMMA Gospel Artiste of the Year award in 2020.
African Voices Changemakers will air on CNN International on Saturday at 8:30 a.m., with encore broadcasts at 12 noon the same day, and on Sunday at 4:30 a.m. and 2 p.m. Viewers can also catch the programme again on Monday at 4 a.m., with the same schedule repeating the following week.
