A stronger push for digital literacy in Nigeria is underway as the National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA) and the MTN Foundation explore a strategic partnership to enhance capacity building across the country.

During a courtesy visit by an MTN Foundation delegation, led by Odunayo Sanya, to NITDA’s headquarters in Abuja, the agency’s Director-General, Kashifu Inuwa, CCIE, underscored the importance of collaboration in driving digital education. He stressed that joint efforts between both organizations would not only improve digital skills but also align with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s vision of fostering industrialization and economic diversification.

Highlighting NITDA’s ambitious Digital Literacy for All (DL4ALL) initiative, Inuwa reaffirmed the agency’s goal of achieving 95% digital literacy by 2027. To realize this, NITDA is working on a structured digital literacy framework that aligns with UNESCO and DigiCom standards. The curriculum, designed in three phases, will cater to learners at the primary, secondary, and tertiary levels, emphasizing skills acquisition over mere certification.

MTN Foundation, which shares similar objectives, has already taken significant steps in digital education. The foundation currently offers a vast array of online courses—over 4,000 in total—with 2,000 young Nigerians already enrolled. Recognizing NITDA’s efforts, Mr. Sanya praised the agency’s initiatives and extended an invitation for NITDA to launch its academy platform on April 17.

As a step towards formalizing their collaboration, both organizations have agreed to set up a joint committee to coordinate efforts efficiently. The partnership is expected to accelerate digital literacy and skills development in Nigeria, reinforcing national economic growth and technological advancement.
