Nigeria-Born Footballer Yaqub Usman-Malah Signs with Brito Sporting Club of Portugal

 Yaqub Usman-Malah, a highly-talented Nigerian-born footballer, has officially joined Brito Sporting Club of Portugal. Founded in 1956, the club announced its latest acquisition during an unveiling ceremony on Saturday, January 4, 2025.

Born in Nigeria in 2006, Yaqub is widely regarded as a promising young talent with exceptional potential. Before signing with Brito Sporting Club, he honed his skills as a student and trainee player at the Brooke College Football Academy in the United Kingdom.

At Brooke College, Yaqub delivered an impressive performance, scoring 17 goals in 32 matches while maintaining a clean bill of health over 116 training days, amounting to 2,270 minutes of on-field action. His talent and dedication were evident, earning him praise from the academy’s Under-17B team coach, Tomasz Wasylik.

Coach Wasylik described Yaqub as a “well-liked person” and a “role model” for his teammates, lauding his professionalism, work ethic, and versatility. “Yaqub is a tactical player, technically strong, and capable of playing in multiple positions on the field,” the coach stated. He also highlighted Yaqub’s outstanding contributions during the 2023/2024 National School Cup competitions, where he competed against other top-tier football programs.

Yaqub’s transition to Brito Sporting Club marks the beginning of a new chapter in his football journey. His father, Mr. Usman Malah, expressed pride and optimism in a statement to the media on Wednesday, January 8, 2025. “We are looking forward to seeing Yaqub showcase his unarguable skills and boundless stamina. We wish him a successful career and a place in the halls of football greatness across the globe,” Mr. Malah said.

With his undeniable talent and the support of his family and former coaches, Yaqub Usman-Malah is poised to make his mark on the international football stage.
