President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Friday, December 27, 2024, joined other Muslim faithful to observe the Jumat prayer at the Lekki Central Mosque in Lagos State. This marks his first public appearance since attending prayer sessions at the Alausa Central Mosque the previous Friday.

The Presidency disclosed this development in a statement by Mr. Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy. During the sermon, the Chief Imam of Lagos Central Mosque, Ridhwan Jamiu, emphasized gratitude to Allah in times of fortune and patience during adversity. He urged the faithful to maintain unwavering hope and faith, even amid challenges.

Recognizing the President’s presence, Imam Jamiu offered prayers for Tinubu’s success in leading Nigeria toward peace, security, and prosperity. He assured the President of the steadfast prayers and support of the Muslim Ummah, praising Tinubu’s leadership qualities.

“We are proud of you,” said the Imam. “We encouraged people to vote for you during the campaigns, and we thank God that you have not disappointed us. We believe and pray that you will continue to lead with righteousness, fairness, and justice. May Allah continue to guide you.”

The cleric also reminded the President of his accountability to both the people and Allah, referencing the Prophet Muhammad’s (SAW) teaching that a righteous and just leader is beloved by Allah.

President Tinubu, who arrived in Lagos on December 18 after presenting the 2025 Budget to the National Assembly, is spending the festive season in the state. His schedule has been adjusted in honour of victims of recent stampedes in Oyo, Anambra, and Abuja, leading to the cancellation of public engagements, including a boat regatta.

On December 23, Tinubu hosted the maiden Presidential Media Chat at his Ikoyi residence. The statement noted that the President has also received private visitors as part of the holiday festivities.
