Human rights lawyer and activist, Dele Farotimi, was arraigned on Wednesday before an Ekiti State Magistrate Court after being arrested by operatives of the Ekiti State Police Command in Lagos on Tuesday. Farotimi appeared in court at around 10:25 a.m. to face a series of charges.

The activist is being prosecuted on 16 counts of defamation brought against him by Aare Afe Babalola SAN, the legal luminary and founder of Afe Babalola University. Farotimi is accused of maligning Babalola’s character in his recently published book, Nigeria and Its Criminal Justice System.

The case has garnered significant attention, particularly due to Farotimi’s prominent role in advocating for human rights and his critical stance on the Nigerian legal system.
