The National Agency for Science and Engineering Infrastructure (NASENI) has successfully concluded a five-day training for 100 youths in Ebonyi State, aligning with President Ahmed Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda aimed at creating wealth and employment opportunities for Nigerian youths. The training, held from November 26–29, 2024, at Remeritona Hotel and Suites, Abakaliki, focused on modern methods of electrical installations and maintenance, covering advanced electrical wiring, appliance repair, solar power installation, electrical panel maintenance, safety inspections, and system upgrades.
Speaking at the closing ceremony, NASENI’s Executive Vice Chairman/CEO, Mr. Khalil Suleiman Halilu, emphasized the agency’s dedication to job creation and skills acquisition as a pathway to poverty alleviation and economic growth. Represented by the Coordinating Director, Finance and Account, Mr. Ibrahim Baba Dauda, he noted that the training was a response to the rising demand for skilled electrical professionals, driven by increasing building construction activities.
Halilu highlighted that the initiative aligns with the Renewed Hope 8-Point Agenda, which prioritizes poverty eradication, job creation, economic growth, and technological advancement. He stressed that the programme would equip the participants with employability skills, meet industry demands, enhance safety and compliance, and create global opportunities.
The Governor of Ebonyi State, Hon. Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru, represented by the Commissioner for Skill Development and Job Creation, Hon. Elija Okwu Oko Udu, commended NASENI’s efforts and reiterated the state’s commitment to youth empowerment. He described the workshop as a demonstration of trust in the youth’s ability to innovate and contribute to society, noting that skill acquisition is essential for individual and community growth.
Participants received startup kits, including safety gear, measuring instruments, and advanced tools such as wireless inspection cameras and conduit benders. Halilu urged the beneficiaries to utilize the kits responsibly, cautioning them against selling the tools, as the acquired skills and resources could transform their lives and contribute to national development.
The training, the third in the South-East zone following similar programmes in Anambra and Imo states, reflects NASENI’s ongoing efforts to foster socio-economic development and build a brighter future for Nigerian youths.
