Jigawa State has been shaken by a tragic explosion that occurred late Tuesday night in Majia Town, Taura Local Government Area. Shi’isu Adam, the Police Spokesperson in Jigawa, confirmed the incident in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Wednesday.
The explosion happened around 11:30 PM when the driver of a fuel tanker, which was en route from Kano to Nguru in Yobe State, lost control near Khadija University. The blast resulted in one fatality and left 50 others hospitalized with various degrees of injuries.
Adam expressed concern over the crowd that gathered at the scene, stating, “Despite police warnings for people to keep their distance from accidents involving fuel tankers, individuals still approach these hazardous situations. This is a primary reason for the high number of casualties.”
In response to the tragedy, authorities have planned a mass burial for the victims at 9 AM on Wednesday. Meanwhile, those injured in the explosion have been receiving medical treatment at Ringim General Hospital. The community is now grappling with the aftermath of this devastating incident, emphasizing the importance of adhering to safety warnings in the face of such accidents.
