Nigerian music star Wizkid has stirred up fresh controversy with a string of fiery social media posts that appear to target fellow Afrobeats heavyweight, Davido. On Wednesday, Wizkid took to X (formerly Twitter) to mock Davido’s use of the title “001,” saying, “The only time you’re 001 is when you’re in your house. You’re not 001 of anything except Instagram followers!”

The Grammy-winning artist also took a dig at Davido’s entourage, accusing him of surrounding himself with financially dependent individuals. “In Naija, the rich weaponize poverty,” Wizkid stated. “You carry all these broke boys in real life, get them visas so they worship you.”

Wizkid’s remarks extended beyond Davido, with what appeared to be a jab at Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, widely known as the “Dancing Governor” for his viral dance videos. Wizkid commented, “When you see people trained by their family, you’ll know. You don’t see my uncle dancing online,” which many interpreted as a pointed reference to Adeleke.

The feud escalated further when Wizkid addressed rumors surrounding Puma, a global sportswear brand, and claims that they paid Davido more than him. Refuting the claims, Wizkid explained, “Puma is a big brand, but the budget they had for Africa wasn’t for me. Was cool for your client, though!” He added that he declined Puma’s offer because they couldn’t meet his demands. “I turned down Puma ’cos they could no longer afford to pay me, ’cos I wanted more! Way bigger than every artiste you just mentioned!”

The clash intensified when Wizkid responded to criticism from Nelson Epega, founder and CEO of the social platform Chatter, who had praised Davido and criticized Wizkid. Epega had previously said his company would never work with Wizkid, calling him an “uncontrollable psychopath.” In response, Wizkid shot back, “First off, you can’t afford me, fool! You’re doing business with the right person you can afford!”

Wizkid also took jabs at Davido’s musical abilities, asserting that Davido is not on his level. “You’re not as fly as me, can’t sing or make music like me, you don’t make more money than me,” Wizkid wrote. He further insulted Davido’s entourage, calling them “broke,” and criticized Davido’s lawyer as a “dumb ass” for always being around him.

The ongoing social media exchange has reignited one of the biggest rivalries in the Nigerian music scene, with fans and observers closely watching the drama unfold online.
