The LAWMA Academy has successfully wrapped up its 2024 summer school program, a four-week initiative aimed at educating pupils on effective waste management and recycling. Held at LAWMA’s headquarters in Ijora-Olopa, the program saw enthusiastic participation from students across Lagos State.
In a closing ceremony, the Managing Director/CEO of LAWMA, Dr. Muyiwa Gbadegesin, represented by Mr. Kunle Adebiyi, Executive Director of Finance, expressed his pleasure with the students’ performance. Adebiyi encouraged the pupils to apply their newly acquired knowledge in their daily lives, stating, “I am thrilled with your performance during this training. I urge you to go out there and share what you have learned with others. You must put these lessons into practice by properly sorting your waste and utilizing recycling materials to create useful items.”
Adebiyi also emphasized the pupils’ new role as ambassadors for waste management, adding, “Wherever you find yourselves, remember that you now carry the responsibility of promoting good waste management practices.”
Mrs. Bola Adewumi, Head of LAWMA Academy, also addressed the students, urging them to leverage their newfound knowledge to foster sustainable living within their communities.
The event featured awards for outstanding students in both primary and secondary categories. Notably, team SSS (Sustainable Solution Squad), comprising the August LAWMA Academy interns, showcased their innovative projects and solutions developed throughout the program. Their presentations highlighted their understanding of waste management concepts and their potential to drive positive change in their communities.
The summer school curriculum covered essential topics such as waste segregation, recycling techniques, and the environmental impact of proper waste management. Participants engaged in hands-on activities and practical sessions, equipping them with a solid foundation in sustainable waste practices.
