Dr. Reuben Muoka, the Director of Public Affairs at the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC), was radiant amidst the glitz and glamour of Abuja as he received the esteemed ‘Distinguished Spokesperson in Technology Award’ from the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations (NIPR). The occasion, the NIPR National Spokesperson Summit, served as a platform for fostering dialogue, innovation, and collaboration aimed at advancing the field of Public Relations in Nigeria and beyond.
Hosted by the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations (NIPR) under the theme “Change Narratives, Change Society,” the event saw the Institute recognizing journalists and PR professionals who had excelled as spokespersons in their respective fields.
Among the distinguished awardees was Dr. Reuben, whose accomplishments spanned beyond national borders. He had previously been granted a fellowship by the Egyptian Embassy in Nigeria, which led to a Pan-African training and tour of Egypt in 1999. This journey culminated in his receiving a continental Diploma Certificate in Journalism from the Egyptian Ministry of Information and the African Journalists Union (AJU) in Cairo, Egypt.
Dr. Muoka’s journey within the NCC was marked by notable achievements. Initially appointed to lead the Special Duties Department, he oversaw crucial units including International Relations, Emergency Communication Centers, Public-Private Partnerships, and Security Services. His exceptional performance led to his promotion to Director of the Department.
Subsequently, Dr. Muoka was redeployed to head the Public Affairs Department, tasked with managing the image and visibility of Nigeria’s telecom regulatory body. Leveraging his extensive background in traditional journalism, public relations, integrated marketing communications, corporate communications, and people management, he propelled the Commission’s vision to enhance its public goodwill and reputational assets.
Dr. Muoka’s professional affiliations underscore his commitment to excellence. He is a proud member of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), a full member of the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations (MNIPR), and an associate member of the Registered Practitioners of Advertising (ARPA), regulated by the Advertising Practitioners Council of Nigeria (APCON).
