A gas explosion at Phoenix Steel Mills in Ogijo, Sagamu Local Government Area of Ogun State has resulted in nine confirmed injuries, with factory workers bearing the brunt of the blast. The incident, which occurred on Saturday, prompted a swift response from the State’s Police Public Relations Officer, SP Omolola Odutola, who confirmed the situation on Sunday night.
According to Odutola, the injured individuals were promptly transported to Rolayo Private Hospital in Ikorodu, Lagos State for urgent medical attention. The explosion not only impacted the factory workers but also caused damage to nearby residences, with reports of cracked window frames due to the blast’s intensity.
In response to the aftermath of the explosion, local youths reportedly attempted to retaliate against the company, but swift intervention by law enforcement officers, including the army detachment of the 174 battalion in Odogunyan, Ikorodu, prevented the situation from escalating into violence. Odutola assured the public that the situation is under control, emphasizing the need for calm and vigilance as authorities continue to monitor the developments closely.
