The National Agency for Science and Engineering Infrastructure (NASENI) has announced its dedication to refurbish and upgrade redundant operational assets of the Nigerian Police Force (NPF), including vehicles, helicopters, as well as confiscated and forfeited vehicles. This initiative aims to bolster the operational capabilities of the Police Force and contribute to enhancing security nationwide in alignment with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Security Agenda.
Mr. Khalil Suleiman Halilu, the Executive Vice Chairman and Chief Executive Officer (EVC/CEO) of NASENI, reaffirmed this commitment during a meeting with the Inspector General of Police, Mr. Kayode Egbetokun, at the Force Headquarters on Friday, February 2, 2024.
Halilu stated that NASENI would mobilize both financial and technical resources to modernize NPF Vehicle Maintenance Workshops across the country. Moreover, the agency aims to recover, repair, and reactivate non-functional police vehicles.
Notably, the refurbishment will also involve the conversion of NPF vehicles from petrol and diesel to electric and compressed natural gas (CNG), aligning with climate change action and promoting sustainability.
The collaboration is expected to yield numerous benefits, including enhanced security, the promotion of local content through the use of domestically manufactured materials, opportunities for skill acquisition and job creation, and sustainable commercial returns to facilitate ongoing maintenance of police assets.
Expressing his support for the initiative, Inspector General of Police, Mr. Kayode Egbetokun, highlighted the significant impact this collaboration will have on the operations, security architecture, and overall service delivery of the Police Force.
He assured NASENI of the Nigeria Police Force’s full cooperation and commitment to providing necessary support to ensure the successful execution of the agency’s mandate.
The partnership between NASENI and the NPF reflects a collective effort to address security challenges and enhance law enforcement capabilities, underscoring the importance of collaboration between government agencies in promoting national security and development.
