Medallion Data Centers Limited, Nigeria’s premier carrier-neutral data center operator, marked a pivotal moment on Monday with the unveiling of its second cutting-edge data center, “LOS2,” in Lagos, the nation’s largest city. Scheduled to commence operations on October 24th, LOS2 will provide an additional one-megawatt IT capacity to its clientele.
Strategically located on Medallion’s Victoria Island campus, LOS2 will seamlessly connect with the renowned LOS1 data center, known as the most interconnected facility in West Africa and a critical peering point for the region. This prime location is ideal for subsea cable connections, metro fiber networks, mobile services, over-the-top providers, and Nigeria’s Internet Exchange Point (IXPN), facilitating efficient, low-latency connections. This development promises to empower connectivity providers to better serve and expand their customer bases.
IXPN underscored the importance of Medallion’s Lagos data center, as over 68% of its traffic is exchanged there, emphasizing its crucial role in Nigeria’s connectivity landscape. Furthermore, LOS2 will grant access to the 2Africa subsea cable system via diverse fiber routes to Medallion’s LKK1 facility, a key component supporting the 2Africa subsea cable system. This will enhance reliable, high-speed connections to the cable’s 46 locations across Africa, Europe, the Middle East, and Asia.

On October 27, 2023, Medallion will officially rebrand its services and facilities as “Digital Realty.” Digital Realty, a global leader in cloud- and carrier-neutral data center, colocation, and interconnection solutions, has taken a significant step in its Pan-African expansion strategy with the acquisition of Medallion in 2021. The company has committed to invest over US$2 billion in Africa’s technology infrastructure over the next decade, and this commitment is already materializing with strategic acquisitions and expansions. Notably, Digital Realty acquired Teraco in August 2022, South Africa’s leading provider of carrier-neutral data center and interconnection services.
