In a devastating incident that occurred on Wednesday, two final year students of Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (LAUTECH) in Ogbomoso, Oyo state, lost their lives in a fatal accident in Osun state. The accident took place at the Ojutu area of Ilobu, Irepodun Local Government Area of the state, where an 18-seater bus, driven by the deceased, caught fire.
Eyewitnesses reported that the Mazda bus was engulfed in flames due to excessive speed, leading to the tragic deaths of the driver and two passengers. Additionally, five other passengers sustained varying degrees of burn injuries.
Agnes Ogungbemi, the Osun Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), confirmed the incident on Thursday and attributed it to speed limit violation and loss of control. Some of the injured victims were transported to Uniosun Teaching Hospital in Osogbo, while others received medical attention at a private hospital in the town.
Furthermore, the three mobile phones found at the accident scene were handed over to the police. Henry Benamaisia, the Sector Commander, emphasized the importance of cautious driving on public highways to prevent avoidable tragedies.
