The untimely demise of rising Nigerian music sensation, Mohbad, last Tuesday, has ignited a flurry of controversies and investigations, with fingers pointed at the Marlian Record Label’s owner, Afeez Fashola, popularly known as Naira Marley.
Amidst the speculation and suspicion surrounding his death, disputes over Mohbad’s estate have emerged among distant relatives in the wake of his passing.
One of the most puzzling aspects of Mohbad’s death was his swift burial in Ikorodu, Lagos, just one day after his demise. His father, however, cited adherence to Yoruba customs as the reason behind this hurried funeral, though many Nigerians questioned the hasty interment.
In response to the public’s demand for justice, Nigerian youths have taken to the streets in peaceful protests, calling for a thorough investigation into Mohbad’s death.
Both the Nigeria Police and the Lagos Police Command have pledged to conduct a comprehensive inquiry into the circumstances surrounding his passing. Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has also requested the involvement of the Department of State Services (DSS) in the investigation.
In a surprising turn of events, Lagos police spokesperson, Ben Hundeyin, announced on Thursday morning that Mohbad’s body had been exhumed, with plans for an autopsy to follow. Hundeyin confirmed the development, stating, “Exhumation completed. Autopsy to commence.”
