In a renewed offensive against human trafficking, police detectives in Anambra State have arrested ten persons suspected to be human traffickers in the state.
The suspects are:
Edna Nnadi (37 years),
Ujunwa Nweke (25years),
Izuchukwu Uba (24 years),
Chinaza Ibeh (19years),
Peace Okon Effiong (25years),
Gift Collins (20years),
Chimkaso Kingsley (25years),
Happiness Monday (18years),
Chioma Okonkwo (25years)and,
Uchechukwu Nwankwo, (18years), all females.
In a press statement, the Police Public Relations Officer in the state, Haruna Mohammed; a Chief Superintendent of Police said the suspects were arrested on Tuesday morning following squealed intelligence report to the Special Intelligence Bureau (SIB) and Area Command, Oraifite.
Detectives had raided the house of one woman identified as Melvina Uju Uba located opposite Nnamdi Azikiwe Orthopedic Teaching Hospital, Oba in Idemili South Local Government Area of the state.
Credible information had revealed that teenage girls were being impregnated and the babies sold out by human traffickers.During the operation, five newly born babies and three other children were rescued.
The Police spokesman said the rescued children would be handed over to the Ministry of Social Welfare, Children’s and Women’s Affairs for proper care, while effort was being intensified to apprehend other accomplices in order to bring them to justice.
