Lagos Waste Management Authority (LAWMA) has issued a call for residents to ensure proper waste management during the Id el Kabir festivities. Emphasizing the importance of a clean environment, LAWMA’s Executive Director, Mr. Kunle Adebiyi, stated that residents should bag and containerize waste appropriately.

Adebiyi assured the public that comprehensive measures had been put in place to maintain a clean and hygienic environment throughout the celebration. Private sector participation (PSP) operators have been assigned to work tirelessly on a round-the-clock schedule to clean up the city.

Residents were urged to avoid indiscriminate waste dumping in unauthorized locations such as road medians, canals, and uncompleted buildings. LAWMA pledged to intensify efforts in ensuring a clean and healthy environment during the festivities.

“LAWMA is determined to combat improper waste disposal practices that contribute to environmental degradation within the metropolis, especially during the forthcoming Id el Kabir celebration,” Adebiyi stated.

To facilitate effective monitoring, the names and phone numbers of LAWMA management team members responsible for overseeing the environment during the festive period will be published in national dailies. Residents were encouraged to contact these numbers or LAWMA’s toll-free lines, 07080601020 or 617, for waste management-related matters.

Adebiyi also appealed to motorists to exercise caution on the roads to protect the lives of sanitation workers who will be busy cleaning the roads and highways during the festive period.

While extending warm felicitations to residents, Adebiyi called for responsible actions that would positively impact the environment throughout the celebrations.
