The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) has announced the 2nd Edition of its Village Square Dialogue (VSD) would take place Thursday, May 26, 2022, in Kano State, as part of the telecoms sector regulating Commission’s planned, multistakeholder consumer outreach initiative.
According to ConsumerConnect, The NCC announced the forum on its corporate website, noting that it would take place at the School of Basic Midwifery in Kano State’s Danbatta Local Government Area at 11:00 a.m.
“The Commission will hold the 2nd Edition of Village Square Dialogue with the theme, ‘Protection of Telecom Infrastructure for Improved Quality of Service: The Role of Residents,” the regulator stated. (Kare kafefen sadarwa don inganta amfaninsu: Rawar da al’umma zasu iya takawa in Hausa)
According to the Commission, the VSD is a version of the Telecom Consumer Conversation (TCC).
The NCC recently hosted the first edition of the grassroots-oriented consumer engagement programme in Abeokuta, Ogun State, at the 92-year-old Centenary Hall, close to the palace of Oba Adedotun Aremu Gbadebo, Okukenu IV, the Alake of Egbaland.
Oba Gbadebo, who was represented at the event by Chief Samuel Tanimowo, Oluwo of Ake, Egbaland, praised the Commission’s regulatory strides in guaranteeing faster expansion of the telecoms sector and as a flagship enabler of Nigeria’s economy.
Barr. Adeleke Adewolu, Executive Commissioner, Stakeholder Management (ECSM), led a delegation of NCC personnel to Abeokuta, the state where the Commission hosted the inaugural Village Square Dialogue.
According to ConsumerConnect, the Village Square Dialogue series is “specially designed by the NCC to interact with telecoms consumers at the grassroots for the objective of sensitizing telecoms consumers through information sharing, education, and advocacy on telecommunications-related issues.”
“Importantly, the forum provides the chance for telecom consumers in rural areas to contribute to the governance process of the telecom ecosystem, as well as to equally engage their service providers to resolve issues,” the NCC added.
