Operatives of the Lagos State Police Command have arrested a 21-year-old suspected armed robber during a routine stop-and-search operation along the Lekki-Epe Expressway, recovering firearms, a suspected human body part, and several items believed to have been stolen from robbery victims.
The suspect, identified as Samson Onilewaji, was apprehended after officers intercepted an unregistered commercial shuttle bus carrying six occupants. A thorough search of the vehicle and its passengers led to the discovery of a suspected human right hand concealed in the suspect’s possession, alongside two locally made pistols, one live cartridge, two axes, a Point of Sale (POS) terminal, and five ATM cards.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the suspect allegedly participated in the robbery of three individuals, dispossessing them of personal belongings, including the recovered POS terminal and ATM cards. Police authorities said efforts are underway to identify and contact the victims so that the recovered items can be returned to their rightful owners.
The Command also disclosed that investigations have commenced to determine the origin of the suspected human body part, identify its owner, and establish the circumstances surrounding its possession and intended use.
According to the Police, detectives are intensifying efforts to track down other members of the suspected criminal network connected to the arrested suspect.
The suspect will be arraigned in court upon the conclusion of ongoing investigations.
Reacting to the arrest, the Commissioner of Police, Lagos State Command, CP Tijani Olaiwola Fatai, psc, mnips, reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to tackling violent crime and ensuring the safety of residents across the state.
He urged members of the public to remain vigilant and continue supporting law enforcement agencies by providing timely and credible information that would aid crime prevention, intelligence gathering, and prompt response to criminal activities.
