Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) has cautioned telephone users against giving out personal information to strangers online under the guise of being polite or of good behaviour .
The Commission, in its latest online safety guide, said that it is not every information that is seen online that is true saying that “meeting someone you have only been in touch with online can very dangerous.”
The NCC added that accepting emails, IM messages or opening files and pictures from strangers can also be dangerous stating that “if someone or something makes you feel unsafe online, you can talk to someone about it’’.
Notwithstanding the huge presence of cyber-crooks in the super highway, the Commission said that Nigerians should be polite when communicating with others online stressing, “remember that not all the information you find on the internet is true.”
