A new wave of digital empowerment for Nigerian women has closed on a high note as the Renewed Hope Initiative, in collaboration with the National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA), concluded its Women ICT Training Empowerment Programme at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.
At the ceremony, the First Lady and National Chairman of the Initiative, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, CON, celebrated the 2025 class, encouraging them to embrace small beginnings and remain consistent in their digital journey. She revealed that the programme will soon be extended to the wives of top executives, noting that the goal is to ensure women in every segment of society can contribute meaningfully to the nation’s digital transformation. She further commended NITDA’s leadership for expanding digital opportunities for women across the country.
NITDA’s Director-General, Kashifu Inuwa, CCIE, praised the First Lady for her continuous support and pointed out that the initiative aligns closely with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, particularly the drive toward digital inclusion, economic diversification, and large-scale human capital development. He explained that these national aspirations informed the creation of the National Digital Literacy Framework, which targets 95% digital literacy by 2030.
Over the course of three weeks, the participants were trained in digital marketing, content creation, device handling, problem-solving, software usage, and online safety. The DG highlighted the rapid scale-up of the programme: from 35 trained women in 2023 to 252 in 2024 and 320 this year, bringing the total to more than 600 beneficiaries. He also noted that NITDA has trained more than 1,000,143 Nigerians in digital skills under the current administration.
Inuwa urged the graduates to return home and pass on their knowledge, mentoring at least two or three other women so the impact continues to multiply.
The event closed with heartfelt appreciation from participants who expressed confidence that the training has prepared them to take advantage of new opportunities in Nigeria’s growing digital economy.
