The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) is taking proactive steps to secure the country’s digital landscape by developing a robust cybersecurity framework set for implementation in 2026. The initiative aims to protect digital infrastructure and tackle threats posed by emerging technologies in the communications sector.

At a recent stakeholder meeting in Abuja, NCC’s Executive Commissioner for Technical Services, Abraham Oshadami, stressed the urgency of the framework, highlighting the sophistication of modern cyber threats. “These attacks now target operational systems and can even endanger lives, making it crucial to have a comprehensive and adaptive cybersecurity strategy,” he said.

The session, which followed an earlier consultation, provided a platform to present progress, gather feedback, and validate key components of the proposed framework. NCC emphasized that strong public-private collaboration and shared responsibility are central to its success.

Dr. Kazeem Durodoye, CEO of CyberNover, presented the detailed framework, while Babagana Digima, NCC’s Head of Cybersecurity and Internet Governance, confirmed World Bank support. The project is expected to be finalized by the third quarter of 2025, with implementation beginning in early 2026.

The initiative reflects NCC’s commitment to safeguarding Nigeria’s digital economy as the nation embraces more technology-driven services, ensuring both systems and citizens are protected against evolving cyber threats.
