Abuja will host the inaugural National Conference on Science, Technology, and Innovation Communication (STICOMMSLOC) from October 21–23, 2025, in partnership with the African University of Science and Technology (AUST). The event aims to foster collaboration between researchers, policymakers, industry leaders, and the media to boost Nigeria’s Science, Technology, and Innovation (STI) sector.
Dr. Bosco Okolo-Obi, Chairman of the Local Organizing Committee, explained that the conference, themed “Communicating Science, Technology, and Innovation for National Development,” will focus on translating research into policies, products, and public understanding. “Our goal is to break technical barriers, train a new generation of science communicators, and advocate for policies that institutionalize science communication in Nigeria,” he said.
The initiative aligns with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, which promotes innovation-driven growth, economic diversification, and human capital development. By connecting stakeholders across sectors, the conference seeks to accelerate Nigeria’s knowledge economy and create opportunities through science and innovation.
Professor Azikiwe Peter Onwualu, President of AUST, welcomed participants, noting the university’s commitment to innovation. “AUST has secured ten patents in the past year alone, and our innovation hub is focused on commercializing research outputs,” he said.
Mr. Olusegun Ayeoyenikan of NASENI highlighted the importance of building a national culture around STI, urging citizens and media professionals alike to actively participate. The event will be held annually, serving as a platform to strengthen Nigeria’s position in global science and technology innovation.
