President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has injected fresh energy into Nigeria’s telecoms sector with the appointment of new boards for the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) and the Universal Service Provision Fund (USPF).
At the NCC, seasoned strategist and youth empowerment advocate Idris Olorunnimbe takes the helm as Chairman. He is joined by Dr. Aminu Maida, who continues as Executive Vice Chairman and CEO, alongside a team of industry-minded members, Abraham Oshidami, Rimini Makama, Hajia Maryam Bayi, Col. Abdulwahab Lawal (Rtd), Senator Lekan Mustafa, Chris Okorie, Princess Oforitsenere Emiko, and the Board Secretary.
The USPF, Nigeria’s vehicle for bridging the digital divide, will now be chaired by the Minister of Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy, Dr. Bosun Tijani, with Olorunnimbe serving as Vice Chairman. Other members include Oshidami, Makama, Aliyu Edogi Aliyu, Joseph B. Faluyi, Auwal Mohammed, Uzoma Dozie, Peter Bankole, Abayomi Anthony Okanlawon, Gafar Oluwasegun Quadri, and the Fund’s Secretary.
The USPF was established to ensure that every Nigerian, whether in a city, small town, or remote village has access to modern information and communication technologies. With this fresh leadership, the federal government aims to accelerate nationwide connectivity and unlock new opportunities for economic growth in unserved and underserved areas.
