The United States has topped the 2025 Global Military Strength Index, published by Global Firepower ( GFP ) ,maintaining it’s position as the world’s most powerful military force.
Russia and China follow closely, ranking second and third respectively.
In Sub-Saharan Africa, Nigeria leads the region, ranking 32st globally.
Below is the breakdown of the top military powers.
Global Top 5:
1. United States: With a Power index score of 0.0744,: the US boasts of unmatched military capabilities, including over 13,000 aircraft and 4,640 tanks
2. Russia: Russia’s military power is highlighted by it’s nuclear arsenal and vast tank fleet, with a Power index score of 0.0788.
3. China: China’s Peoples Liberation Army is rapidly modernizing with a Power index score of 0.0788
4. India: Indira’s military ranks among the largest, with a Power index score of 0.1184
5. South Korea: South Koreans’ military is technologically advanced, with a power index score of 0.1656.
Sub-Saharan Africa’s Top Military Powers:
1. Nigeria: Ranked 31st globally, Nigeria’s military strength is recognized for it’s strategic importance in regional security, with a power index score of 0.5771.
2. South Africa: Ranked 40th globally, South Africa’s military is a significant force in the region .
