The National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) has addressed recent claims by the Police Service Commission (PSC) alleging restricted access to its identity verification platform.
In a statement signed by Dr. Kayode Adegoke, Head of Corporate Communications at NIMC, the Commission described the allegations as “misleading and inaccurate.” NIMC affirmed that all its verification platforms remain fully operational and accessible to authorized partners, including all security agencies.
“The Commission is aware of the purported ‘inability of the Police Service Commission (PSC) to access the NIMC verification server.’ This claim does not reflect the current reality,” the statement read.
To clarify, NIMC stated that it has consistently provided verification access to all formations of the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) for over five years, including for recruitment and security operations conducted by the PSC.
“At no point have we received official complaints regarding NIN verification services from either the NPF or the PSC,” Dr. Adegoke added.
According to NIMC, the Information Communications and Technology (ICT) department of the Nigeria Police Force manages the verification and integration service with NIMC across police formations nationwide. The Commission reaffirmed its commitment to supporting security agencies in areas such as recruitment, cybercrime control, and national security mapping.
The statement also noted that recent restructuring of the service framework—undertaken in consultation with the Office of the National Security Adviser (ONSA)—was aimed at standardizing service delivery. NIMC confirmed that the NPF had validated the continued availability of verification services following this restructuring.
“We believe any disruption experienced by the PSC may be internal and unrelated to the NIMC service platform,” the statement continued.
NIMC reiterated its dedication to providing seamless and secure identity verification services to the PSC, NPF, and all partners, emphasizing the importance of adherence to service agreements to ensure continuous access.
