Former Minister of Education , Dr. Oby Ezekwesili, Popularly called Madam Due Process, during the Chief Olusegun Obasanjo civilian administration, has launched a skathing attack on Nigeria ‘s Judiciary, blaming it for most of the ills in our Democratic experiment, giving rise to people of shady character to rise to positions of authority.
Ezekwesili alleged that a corrupt Judicial system in Nigeria has allowed funny character like Godswill Akpabio and few others to rise to the Senate, occupying various positions as Senate president and committee chairmen. She argued that without a system rot in the Judiciary, Akpabio , a former Akwa Ibom governor’s political carrier would have ended long ago due to several allegations of corruption and electoral malpractices that have traded him.
Ezekwesili remarked that Akpabio’s emergence to secure a senatorial seat and ascend to one of Nigeria’s most powerful political positions is one amongst several positions.
She made these remarks during a public lecture in ABUJA, underscoring growing concerns about the Nigeria’s Judicial process. She pointed to cases where court rulings have allegedly been influenced by political interests and thereby allowing controversial figures like Godswill Akpabio to evade accountability.
According to her, ” Judiciary is the bedrock of any Democratic Society, But in Nigeria, it’s a tool for the highest bidder ” She said, accusing the Judiciary of shielding and protecting corrupt and so called powerful politicians polluting our environment.
