The Lagos State Police Command has commenced the enforcement of mandatory Third Party Motor Vehicle Insurance in compliance with the directive of the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, Ph.D., NPM.
Effective February 1, 2025, all vehicle owners in Lagos State are required to possess at least a valid Third Party Insurance policy. The police have advised those currently without insurance to obtain the necessary coverage immediately to avoid penalties.
The Nigeria Police Force has warned that failure to comply with this regulation will attract strict enforcement actions, including fines, penalties, or both. The initiative aims to enhance compliance with insurance laws and ensure the protection of vehicle owners and other road users.
Commissioner of Police, Lagos State Command, CP Olanrewaju Ishola, psc(+), mnips, has instructed officers to conduct the enforcement exercise professionally, courteously, and firmly. He emphasized that no form of misconduct or incivility towards the public would be tolerated.
The police have urged the public to cooperate, stressing that adherence to this regulation benefits all road users.
