The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has announced that it is close to fully restoring the national grid after a partial disturbance occurred on Monday evening. According to Mrs. Ndidi Mbah, TCN’s General Manager of Public Affairs, the disturbance, which happened around 6:48 p.m., triggered immediate recovery efforts.
In a statement on Tuesday, Mbah explained that the grid recovery process began promptly, with Azura Power Station providing the crucial blackstart to jumpstart the system. By 10:24 a.m. on Tuesday, the restoration had progressed significantly, despite a brief challenge that caused a minor setback.
“Despite the setback, TCN continued its recovery efforts and made substantial progress,” Mbah stated. She confirmed that bulk power supply had been restored to around 90 percent of TCN’s substations across the country, including the Abuja axis and other key distribution centers.
Mbah also noted that the Ibom Gas generating station remained unaffected by the disturbance and continued supplying power to the South-South region, including Eket, Ekim, Uyo, and Itu 132 kilovolt transmission substations.
Efforts are ongoing to ensure the complete recovery of the national grid and full power restoration across the country.
