Tragedy in Ikorodu: Man Allegedly Stabs Wife to Death, Sets Room on Fire

A 30-year-old man, Motunrayo Olaniyi, has been arrested for allegedly stabbing his 25-year-old wife, Olajumoke, multiple times before locking her in their room and setting it ablaze in the Elepe area of Ikorodu, Lagos. The tragic incident reportedly occurred on Friday, October 4, 2024, following a domestic altercation between the couple.

Lagos State Police Command spokesperson, Benjamin Hundeyin, confirmed the incident in a statement on Saturday. According to Hundeyin, after attacking his wife, Olaniyi inflicted self-inflicted wounds before attempting to set the scene on fire.

Responding to a distress call, officers from the Ikorodu Division arrived at the couple’s residence in Amazing Grace Estate and managed to extinguish the flames. Inside, they discovered Olajumoke’s lifeless body with severe stab wounds to her abdomen.

“Upon receiving the call, police from the Ikorodu Division promptly responded and put out the fire. Unfortunately, the wife was found dead, with multiple stab wounds to her abdomen,” the statement read.

Olaniyi, who survived the ordeal, was immediately rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment of his injuries. After receiving medical care, he was discharged and taken into police custody for further investigation.

The police disclosed that the victim’s body has been transferred to the Ikorodu General Hospital morgue for an autopsy. Investigations into the tragic incident are ongoing.
