Across several states in Nigeria, thousands of individuals living with mental health challenges continue to roam the streets without access to proper care, shelter, or medical attention. Many of them are left to struggle daily for survival, highlighting a growing humanitarian and public health concern.
In response to this challenge, the Seraphic Homes Foundation, founded by Evangelist Ebuka Obi, the Spiritual Director of Zion Prayer Movement Outreach, has taken a bold step by establishing a Psychiatric Hospital in Aguleri, Anambra State. The facility was set up to rescue mentally challenged individuals from the streets and provide them with comprehensive psychiatric care, rehabilitation, and social support — all free of charge.
Through this initiative, the foundation has begun identifying and evacuating mentally challenged individuals from major streets and communities across Anambra, Imo, Enugu, Abia, and Ebonyi states. The rescued individuals are transported to the Seraphic Psychiatric Hospital, where they receive professional medical treatment, accommodation, feeding, and structured rehabilitation aimed at restoring their mental health and reintegrating them into society.
So far, the outreach has led to the rescue of over twenty individuals from different parts of Anambra and Imo States. The operation is gradually expanding its reach to other southeastern states such as Enugu and Ebonyi, with emerging efforts also extending to parts of the South-South region.
According to the foundation, the long-term goal is to scale the initiative across all six geopolitical zones in Nigeria, ensuring that more vulnerable individuals suffering from untreated mental health conditions receive the care and dignity they deserve.
Through sustained outreach, medical intervention, and rehabilitation programs, the initiative seeks not only to address untreated mental health conditions but also to restore hope, dignity, and a sense of belonging to some of the most vulnerable members of society.
