Free WiFi services have finally been introduced at two of Nigeria’s busiest airports thanks to a collaboration between the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) and MTN Nigeria, following years of passenger complaints about inadequate or nonexistent internet connectivity at Nigerian airports.

The Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja and Terminal 2 of Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos hosted the service’s unveiling.

Despite budgetary allowances for internet connectivity, travelers arriving at or leaving Nigerian airports faced years of difficulty accessing basic internet services. MTN in lieu of this, decided to sponsor the installation of the free WiFi in collaboration with FAAN.

FAAN’s Managing Director/Chief Executive, Mrs. Olubunmi Kuku, was represented by Airport Operations Director Abdullahi Mahmood at the formal launch ceremony, which was held at MMIA Terminal 2 in Lagos. Additionally in attendance, was MTN Nigeria’s Chief Enterprise Business Officer, Lynda Saint-Nwafor, who was there on behalf of Karl Toriola, the company’s CEO.

In her speech, Saint-Nwafor gave travelers her word that the service would be safe, dependable, and able to handle the increasing needs of digital technology at airports. She praised the leadership of FAAN for their “foresight and collaboration,” which enabled the initiative.

Speaking on the collaboration, Captain Mamood stated that within the following three months, the free WiFi service will be expanded to the MMIA temporary terminal and other international airports across the country. He concluded that the project is in line with President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda and the continuous reform initiative of Festus Keyamo, Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development.
