Oriyomi Hamzat, a well-known broadcaster from Oyo State, has explained why he is interested in the state governorship.
Hamzat emphasised that he considered the counsel of his advisors and chose to run for governor in the 2027 elections under the Accord Party, indicating that it was not unrelated to God’s influence.
In one of his shows on Agidigbo FM on Monday, the star broadcaster, who is well-known for his Yoruba slang phrase “e gbenu si mic,” which translates to “speak to the microphone,” thanked all the advisers and attendees of the Saturday rally. He stated that he was personally convinced that he would serve the people, but he did not discount the opinions of those who advised against running.
“The Oyo people, my lovers, particularly my counsellors, who advised me not to run for office. Thank you, everyone. I tried the advice of both those who urged me to run and others who cautioned me against it. I presented it to God, and he gave me permission to contest.
And while I want to appease the majority of you who cautioned me against competing, I don’t want to defy God. You are all advising me because I think you all love me. Now that I’ve expressed my interest in the state’s highest office, I beg anyone I may have insulted with this choice to pardon me and stand by me.
“Unlike the majority of those dishonest politicians, I want to serve the people.” Since everyone is rooting for me and I didn’t pay anyone to attend the event, I think I’ll win,” he declared.
Oriyomi further disregarded the position of those who maintain that he won’t run, claiming that he has moved past the worry that he won’t.
“The question of whether I would lose the election or have it rigged is no longer relevant. I’m asking for your full support.
At a rally on Saturday at Liberty Stadium in Ibadan, Hamzat announced his intention to run for state governor. He told supporters that his decision was motivated by what he called a “divine calling.”
He stated that his prior involvement in politics was restricted to helping people and that he had no intention of joining a political party or running for government.
“Today, I am publicly declaring my intention to join Accord as my political platform and to contest the Oyo governorship election in 2027 as a candidate,” he declared during his speech.
Furthermore, he said that neither political clout nor financial might nor the backing of the ruling administration supported his choice.
“I don’t have the support of the current government, nor do I have any financial or political connections. The well-known host of the Kokoro Alate program said, “I have come with God, and that is all I need.”
