The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) is moving to deepen its review of competition in the telecommunications sector with the planned convening of a Stakeholder Consultative Forum in Lagos.
The forum, billed for January 13, 2025, will bring together telecom operators, policymakers, regulators and other industry actors to openly examine how competition is shaping up in Nigeria’s fast-evolving communications market.
This engagement follows an independent industry-wide study initiated by the NCC and currently being handled by PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC). The study is taking a close look at the structure of the telecoms market, how players compete, and whether existing regulatory measures are still effective in addressing current realities.
According to the Commission, the consultative session will serve as a platform to discuss early insights from the study, gather diverse viewpoints and refine regulatory approaches aimed at ensuring fair competition, encouraging innovation and safeguarding consumer interests.
The NCC has also called for broader participation by inviting written submissions from stakeholders and members of the public ahead of the forum.
The Commission said the initiative underscores its commitment to building a competitive telecoms environment that attracts investment, improves service quality and strengthens the foundation of Nigeria’s digital economy.
