The Lagos State Police Command has dismissed reports alleging that Ajebo Community near Agbowa in Ikosi-Ejirin LCDA was invaded by armed hoodlums, describing the claims as false, misleading, and capable of causing public panic.
The Command clarified that the incident referenced in the report was not an armed invasion but a dispute over land ownership between two families within the Ajebo Community. According to the police, the disagreement escalated into temporary unrest, prompting immediate intervention by joint police teams.
Upon receiving the report, tactical squads, Police Mobile Force anti-riot units, conventional police officers from Agbowa Division and Area N Command, alongside other special units from the Lagos State Police Command Headquarters, were swiftly deployed to the area. Normalcy was promptly restored, allowing residents to resume their daily activities.
Preliminary investigations revealed that no gunmen were involved in the disturbance, and there was no firing of firearms, contrary to claims circulating online. The police confirmed that no life was lost and no injuries were recorded before, during, or after the incident.
The Commissioner of Police, Lagos State, CP Olohundare Jimoh, has directed a full investigation into the land dispute. Leaders of the two families involved have been identified and invited to report to the Office of the Commissioner of Police for further questioning. They have also been warned to maintain peace, with assurances that the law will be firmly applied against anyone who attempts to disrupt public order.
The Command further cautioned members of the public and media organisations against spreading unverified or inaccurate information, stressing the importance of responsible reporting. CP Jimoh reassured residents of Ajebo Community and Lagos State at large of the Police Command’s continued commitment to maintaining peace, security, and public safety across the state.
