The Lagos State Police Command has dismissed as completely false the viral social media claims alleging that armed police officers attacked residents during the ongoing demolition exercise in the Oworonshoki area.
In a statement issued by the Command, the reports were described as “mischievous fabrications aimed at misleading the public and discrediting the professionalism of officers on duty.” The Command clarified that its personnel were only deployed to maintain peace and order while the Lagos State Government and its Task Force on Environmental and Special Offences carried out a lawful urban renewal project.
According to the statement, the demolition was executed by the appropriate state agencies following due process, which included months of official notices and the payment of compensation to affected occupants. The police maintained that at no point did its officers engage in violence, harassment, or collusion with hoodlums, as claimed in the misleading reports.
Reaffirming its constitutional duty, the Command explained that police presence at such exercises is solely to ensure security, protect government officials, and prevent any breakdown of law and order. Officers deployed to the scene, it said, acted under strict instructions to remain civil, professional, and respectful of human rights
The Command urged members of the public to disregard the false claims, verify information before sharing, and continue to cooperate with law enforcement agencies.
