President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has reshuffled the nation’s top military command, ushering in a new generation of Service Chiefs to lead Nigeria’s defence institutions into a stronger, more coordinated phase.
The announcement, made through his Special Adviser on Media and Public Communication, Chief Sunday Dare, revealed Lt. General Olufemi Oluyede as the new Chief of Defence Staff, succeeding General Christopher Musa. Also appointed were Major-General W. Shaibu as Chief of Army Staff, Air Vice Marshal S.K. Aneke as Chief of Air Staff, and Rear Admiral I. Abbas as Chief of Naval Staff. Major-General E.A.P. Undiendeye retains his role as Chief of Defence Intelligence.
President Tinubu praised the outgoing Service Chiefs for their dedication and service, acknowledging their efforts in safeguarding the nation through years of complex security challenges. He charged the new appointees to uphold integrity, discipline, and unity while deepening collaboration across all branches of the military.
The appointments come at a critical time for Nigeria, as the government intensifies its campaign against terrorism, banditry, and other internal security threats.
