At the 2025 Open Government Partnership (OGP) Global Summit in Spain, the country emerged as a double winner, taking home both the Regional Award for Africa and the Middle East and the Global Thematic Award for Digital Governance.
These back-to-back wins place Nigeria among the world’s leading examples of how technology can drive open, transparent, and citizen-focused governance.
Behind this success is the National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA), working in partnership with Dataphyte, a civil society organization committed to advancing data-driven transparency. Together, they showcased how innovation, policy, and collaboration can transform public engagement and strengthen trust in government institutions.
The recognitions celebrate Nigeria’s forward-thinking digital policies — from open data systems to participatory platforms, designed to make governance more accessible and inclusive for every citizen. Anchored under the Federal Ministry of Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy, NITDA’s work continues to set new standards for digital accountability across the continent.
