Two communities in Bwari Area Council of the Federal Capital Territory have received a much-needed boost in access to clean water, thanks to the Friends of Regent Primary School (FORPS), Maitama, Abuja, who donated two manual boreholes as part of its corporate social responsibility initiative.
Commissioned on Friday, July 4, 2025, in Kogo II and Barangoni, the water projects are the latest in FORPS’s ongoing efforts to uplift underserved communities. Speaking at the event, Chairperson of the group, Mrs. Salma Dahiru Muhammed, described the donation as a concrete step toward addressing water scarcity in rural parts of the FCT.
“Access to clean water is a basic human necessity, yet it remains elusive for many. This initiative promotes better health, development, and improved living conditions for these communities,” she said. Mrs. Muhammed also expressed appreciation to the donors and volunteers whose contributions made the project possible, noting that the success demonstrated the power of collective action.
The Headmaster of Regent Primary School, Mr. Shaun Stockden, disclosed that the project was executed within seven months, made possible by annual fundraising efforts by the school community. “We are proud to support projects that directly impact lives and look forward to more interventions of this kind,” he said.
FORPS Vice Chairperson, Mrs. Fiona Ewa, recalled how a viral video of people and animals sharing the same water source moved the group to act. “We couldn’t ignore it. Clean water changes everything from hygiene to dignity,” she said, adding that each borehole has the capacity to deliver up to 3,000 litres of water daily.
Community leaders, Chief Samuel Gimba of Kogo II and Mr. Timothy Yohana of Barangoni, expressed deep gratitude on behalf of their people, hailing the donation as life-changing. They both pledged to ensure the facilities are maintained and put to good use.
The project underscores the growing role of educational institutions and their partners in promoting sustainable development and social welfare across Nigeria’s capital.
