The fast-growing Information and Communication Technology (ICT) sector in Nigeria will take centre stage on May 24, 2025, as the Africa’s Beacon of ICT Merit and Leadership Awards (ABoICT) celebrates its 16th edition at Four Points by Sheraton, Lagos.
Billed as the “ICT Growth Edition 2025,” the prestigious event will honour standout individuals and organizations whose innovations and leadership have propelled Nigeria’s digital evolution across key sectors such as the economy, education, healthcare, and governance.
In recent decades, the ICT sector has emerged as a vital engine of Nigeria’s GDP, unlocking business opportunities, democratizing access to information, and enhancing the everyday lives of citizens. With digital transformation accelerating across the country, the ABoICT Awards seek to shine a light on the trailblazers driving this progress.
Ken Nwogbo, Editor-in-Chief of Nigeria CommunicationsWeek and the brain behind the awards, revealed that this year’s honorees are not only industry leaders but also crowd favorites. “Most of these organizations and individuals have consistently been voted by our readers as leaders in their areas of operations, and we have decided to reward them in this special edition,” he said.
The highlight of the night will be a keynote lecture by cybersecurity and GRC expert, Prof. Adewale Obadare, who also serves as the Chief Visionary Officer of Digital Encode. He will explore the role of ICT in national development, emphasizing its influence on economic growth, improved governance, and better quality of life for Nigerians.
Prof. Obadare is also expected to spotlight the evolving intersection of artificial intelligence and cybersecurity. With cyber threats growing more sophisticated, he argues that AI-powered tools offer a much-needed lifeline for real-time threat detection and response. “Artificial intelligence transforms cybersecurity by automating responses to risks, detecting unusual activity, and even foreseeing possible dangers before they occur,” Nwogbo echoed.
He also stressed the importance of ethical AI development and deeper collaboration between cybersecurity professionals and AI researchers to safeguard the digital future.
