Dr. Vincent Olatunji, National Commissioner and CEO of the Nigeria Data Protection Commission, has been appointed as the Chair of the Anglophone Countries Committee within the Network of Africa Data Protection Authorities (NADPA). His appointment was confirmed during a committee meeting held on April 2, 2025, reinforcing Nigeria’s growing influence in data privacy and protection across the continent.
Expressing appreciation for the trust placed in Nigeria, Dr. Olatunji emphasized the importance of collaboration in ensuring the privacy rights of Africa’s 1.4 billion people are safeguarded. He urged committee members to view their role as a shared responsibility in strengthening Africa’s position in the global data ecosystem.
In addition to this leadership role, Nigeria is set to host the 2025 NADPA Annual General Meeting and Conference from May 6 to May 8. The event, themed “Balancing Innovation in Africa: Data Protection and Privacy in Emerging Technologies,” will highlight the country’s progress in data governance and its commitment to building a sustainable digital economy under the leadership of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
