President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has extended condolences to the government and people of India on the passing of former Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh, who served as India’s leader from 2004 to 2014. Dr. Singh passed away on Thursday, December 26, 2024, at the age of 92.
In a statement issued by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Mr. Bayo Onanuga, President Tinubu described Singh’s official visit to Nigeria in 2007 as historic. During the visit, Singh became one of the few world leaders to address a joint session of the Nigerian National Assembly, a testament to his commitment to strengthening Nigeria-India relations.
President Tinubu highlighted Singh’s pivotal role in establishing the Strategic Partnership between Nigeria and India, a framework that continues to foster political and economic collaboration between the two nations. He praised the late leader for his dedication to advancing bilateral ties in key sectors, including defence, trade, education, health, science and technology, and ICT.
Reflecting on Singh’s legacy, President Tinubu lauded his leadership during globally challenging economic times and his instrumental role in driving India’s economic reforms. He commended the Indian people for celebrating the life and achievements of a selfless leader and distinguished economist.
The Nigerian leader prayed that Singh’s legacy of service and commitment would inspire future generations in India and beyond.
