The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has applauded the Kwara State Government for its prompt and impartial handling of the recent assault on a female Corps Member by Hajia Fatimoh Nike Hamzat, a teacher at Government Day Junior Secondary School, Kulende, Ilorin.
The incident, which involved both verbal and physical abuse, reportedly occurred after the Corps Member failed to greet Hamzat in what the teacher deemed an appropriate manner.
Brigadier General YD Ahmed, the Director General of NYSC, commended the investigative panel set up by the Kwara State Government for its professionalism and adherence to the Public Service Rules.
In a statement by Caroline Embu, the Acting Director of Information and Public Relations, NYSC emphasized its zero-tolerance stance on the mistreatment of Corps Members. It highlighted the critical role Corps Members play in promoting national development and unity, insisting they deserve respect from employers and host communities alike.
“The Corps Member in question had been verbally and physically assaulted by Hajia Fatimoh Nike Hamzat for failing to ‘greet her properly.’ The law-abiding but aggrieved Corps Member reported the incident, and NYSC forwarded the complaint to the State Government through the appropriate channels, leading to the establishment of an investigative panel whose findings NYSC found fair and commendable,” the statement read.
Brigadier General Ahmed reiterated his administration’s commitment to the welfare and security of Corps Members, urging them to remain dedicated to their duties and their oath of allegiance. He also encouraged them to continue contributing positively to the nation’s socio-economic development.
The NYSC’s recognition of the Kwara State Government’s actions underscores the Corps’ commitment to ensuring a safe and respectful environment for its members across the country.
