With the aim of raising awareness of mental health issues, 9mobile held an insightful virtual event titled “Navigating Mental Health in a Digital World” on X-space, in commemoration of World Mental Health Day. The event focused on this year’s theme, “Mental Health at Work,” emphasizing the need for universal access to mental health care, particularly in today’s digitally connected world.

A distinguished panel of experts led the discussion, including Dr. Olalekan Makinde, a Consultant in Community/Public Health; Dr. Alexandra Odiari, a Mental Health Specialist; Dr. Olayinka Jibunoh, a Psychologist and Mental Health Advocate; and Amara Esomchi, a Certified Mental Health Therapist and Counselor. The experts addressed the stigma surrounding mental health and explored the positive role social media can play in promoting mental wellness.

Chineze Amanfo, 9mobile’s PR Lead, expressed the company’s commitment to supporting mental health awareness, stating, “We’re honored to support this vital conversation. Mental health awareness is increasingly essential in today’s digital landscape, where connectivity can sometimes mask feelings of isolation. Through platforms like X-space, 9mobile is dedicated to fostering meaningful connections and discussions.”

She further highlighted the company’s commitment to health as a key pillar of its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiatives, noting that 9mobile has consistently made targeted interventions in the health sector and plans to continue driving positive impact.

During the event, Dr. Makinde emphasized the importance of prioritizing mental health in a fast-paced world, stating, “Health is a priceless asset. Mental well-being is the foundation for lasting success and fulfillment.” Amara Esomchi, a Mental Health Advocate, echoed these sentiments, noting, “Health is all-encompassing, and maintaining meaningful social connections is essential for mental and emotional balance.”

Dr. Odiari called for the normalization of conversations around mental health to eliminate stigma, while Dr. Jibunoh stressed the need for digital hygiene and taking breaks from constant online engagement to protect mental clarity.

By hosting this event, 9mobile demonstrated its understanding of the vital role mental health plays in the digital world and its commitment to raising awareness among its subscribers, employees, and the wider Nigerian community through engaging online discussions.
