As Lagos celebrates Id el Kabir , the Lagos Waste Management Authority (LAWMA) has issued a strong call for residents to prioritize proper waste disposal practices. Highlighting the need to maintain cleanliness and hygiene throughout the festive period, LAWMA emphasized the significance of managing animal waste and other refuse effectively.
Dr. Muyiwa Gbadegesin, Managing Director/CEO of LAWMA, underscored the agency’s commitment to ensuring a clean environment during Id el Kabir. He outlined comprehensive measures already in place to facilitate efficient waste collection and disposal across the city.
“We have implemented a robust system to manage waste effectively during Id el Kabir,” Dr. Gbadegesin stated. “Our aim is to ensure that the festivities are enjoyed in a clean and safe environment. Our service providers are working diligently to achieve this goal.”
In a bid to curb environmental degradation, LAWMA cautioned against improper waste disposal practices, particularly discouraging the use of unauthorized waste handlers such as cart pushers. Dr. Gbadegesin urged residents to cooperate by properly bagging and containerizing waste for collection by designated Public Sector Partnership (PSP) operators.
“Dumping waste on road medians, canals, or uncompleted buildings is not acceptable,” Dr. Gbadegesin emphasized. “We are enhancing our services to support PSP operators in areas with service gaps, ensuring comprehensive waste management coverage across Lagos.”
Acknowledging the vital role sanitation workers play, especially during festive periods, Dr. Gbadegesin appealed to motorists to exercise caution on the roads to protect the safety of these essential workers.

With these measures in place, LAWMA reaffirmed its commitment to fostering a cleaner and healthier Lagos, urging all residents to participate actively in maintaining environmental cleanliness throughout the festive season.
