The National Agency for Science and Engineering Infrastructure (NASENI) has achieved a significant milestone with the assurance that its recently unveiled commercial products are market-ready and certified by the Standards Organisation of Nigeria (SON). This announcement was made by the Executive Vice Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, Mr. Khalil Suleiman Halilu, during an oversight visit by the House of Representatives Committee on NASENI to the Agency’s headquarters on Thursday.

During the visit, the House Committee inspected NASENI’s diverse range of products and projects aimed at bolstering technological advancements in sectors such as defense, agriculture, and infrastructure. Notable products showcased included the NASENI Laptop, Android Smartphone, Lithium Battery, LED Solar Street Light, Solar Irrigation System, Electric Bicycle, and various models of Electric Keke for both passengers and cargo. Additionally, Mr. Halilu presented two newly branded NASENI electric vehicles (EVs) to the lawmakers.

Mr. Halilu emphasized NASENI’s pivotal role in Nigeria’s technological and industrial progress, noting the Agency’s shift from research-focused activities to the commercialization of its innovations. “Over the past few months, we have implemented several key initiatives aimed at transforming our operations from primarily research-based activities to commercialization of our products and services,” he stated. He highlighted that 85 percent of NASENI projects are funded through partnerships, adhering to the 3C’s principle of Collaboration, Creation, and Commercialization, thereby involving the private sector to fulfill their mandate.
Revealing that about 35 NASENI products are ready for the market, Mr. Halilu encouraged the lawmakers to act as ambassadors for these innovations through patronage. He also announced the establishment of showrooms across all 36 states to enhance product accessibility and visibility. “We have a commercial plan for every activity. We don’t want our products to end up on shelves, but to reach end users,” he added.
Highlighting the achievements under his leadership, Mr. Halilu pointed to significant strides in innovation and research development, product commercialization, renewable energy projects, and capacity building. He urged continued support from the lawmakers to help NASENI deliver valuable goods to the nation and create jobs for Nigerian youths.

The Chairman of the House Committee on NASENI, Hon. Otunba Abimbola Ajilesoro, outlined the purpose of the oversight visit, emphasizing the importance of robust research in various sectors to save and generate foreign exchange, thus positively impacting the economy. He affirmed the committee’s commitment to supporting NASENI through appropriation and legislative frameworks that strengthen the Agency’s mandate.
Hon. Ajilesoro acknowledged the committee’s keen interest in NASENI’s activities and products, underscoring the necessity of firsthand evaluation of the technologies that could enhance Nigeria’s economic landscape. He assured NASENI of the committee’s readiness to provide ongoing support while demanding accountability and value for money in the implementation of its programs.
“This oversight and support will enable us to expand, deepen, and create a sustainable path for technological advancement, positioning Nigeria as an industrial hub among the comity of nations,” Hon. Ajilesoro concluded.
