Deputy Commissioner of Police Gbolahan Olugbemi, formerly attached to the Force Criminal Intelligence and Investigations Department (FCIID), has reportedly taken his own life in Ogbomoso, Oyo State. The discovery of his body in his apartment, with a noose around his neck, has shocked the community.
While investigations are ongoing to determine the exact circumstances of his death, sources suggest that it appears to be a case of suicide. The late DCP Olugbemi, had returned home for the Easter celebration but was found alone at his residence on Petros Academy Street, Federal Low-Cost Area.
Described as a dedicated officer with a distinguished career, Olugbemi, who was in his 50s, had served as the Aide De Camp to late Governor Adebayo Alao-Akala during his brief tenure from 2006-2007. His tragic end has left sympathizers in mourning, with his residence now cordoned off as the community comes to terms with the loss.
Neighbors recall seeing the late DCP occasionally accompanied by police security, driving into his mansion, but noted that he was often alone, with his family not frequently seen with him. Sources close to the situation revealed that Olugbemi had been struggling with depression for an extended period.
Despite his personal challenges, Olugbemi was recognized for his effective policing and was recommended for commendation for his handling of the ENDSARS protests in 2020. His career included roles as Divisional Police Officer in Ilupeju Area Commander in Ajah and as a Personal Assistant to two former Commissioners of Police in Lagos State.
